Holding down a Job While High School

I wrote this paper during my Senior Year of High School. The assignment was to write a page paper on this statement: "Should High School Students have jobs outside of school during the school year."
I feel that High School Students should have jobs during school. Having a job has other benefits than just having money to spend. A job during high school teaches money and time management and it allows having money to spend.
A job during high school teaches time management. With things to do from 8am to 11pm or later, the most must be made of your time. Most students will have homework from school and must to have time to complete that work. Learning how to get from Point A to Point B in a small amount of time, and how to work quickly on homework, is essential so that something else can be done.
Money management is also learned from having a job during high school. A job means that money will be coming in on a regular schedule, however, making that money last to the next paycheck may be a problem. If three fourths of the paycheck is spent on the first day, the rest of the pay period must be on only one fourth of the paycheck. If how to manage money to last through the entire pay period is learned during high school, it is easier to cope with larger amounts of money and more bills after high school.
The final, and most noticeable benefit of having a job while in high school, is having money to spend. Having money in the pocket whenever it is needed is a great benefit while in school. It allows getting what is needed, when it is needed.
Now, granted, some can not handle having a job and attending school full time. There just is not enough hours in the day to accomplish all work successfully for some people. This type of person would be better-suited learning responsibility at home.
No matter what the decision on a job during high school is, it has benefits other than just money to spend. Just remember, if you try to hold down a job, and go to school, it can be a risky business, but it can be very rewarding.
